Week in Review, Week Ahead

Another week, another...week. Last week, I had no plans. None at all.  And that's about all that got done. So..yeah.

Links time!

This edition of You Suck at Craigslist features a "lurning tool" ("You are buying a tool to lurn by") and a childcare provider who doesn't understand punctuation. Fun!

This week, it's supposed to be raining and miserable, again. Jasmine and I do not walk in the rain (or the snow...brr!). So I'll be finding other ways to work on my fitness goals. I'm also going to work on not spending so much time playing the sims, and more time...doing other things. That'll probably last all of fifteen minutes, but I'm going to try. Hard. ish,

Tiny Kitty Challenges Big Doggie

It's Friday! And if that wasn't enough reason to get excited (or you need something to make the day go by quicker. Or you're wasting time. Or....), here's a video staring a tiny kitty and big doggie, squaring off on a couch.

Week in Review, Week Ahead

Hello and welcome to another week! Last week began with pi day (did I eat any pie? No, sadly I did not), then it was my birthday! I went shopping with my mom, got lots of awesome stuff and later went out for supper with Mom, Dad and The Boyfriend. And I had cake and ice cream. Well, it was actually low fat fudge brownie frozen yogurt, but whatever. It was awesome. (seriously, you should try it. It's made by Scotsburn and you should buy some, not because it's low fat or whatever, but because it's very tasty.) All is good. As for the rest of the week, I finished editing all my photos taken in February (I know, we're more then halfway through March...), spent way too much time playing The Sims 3, went to a bonfire Saturday night and went for a bunch of walks with Jasmine.  Good week. Very good week.

Links? Yes, please!

A 77  year old Nova Scotia woman has been declared dead not once, but twice this year by the government. She's still very much alive. "In the meantime, she will continue to volunteer in her community and knit for her grandchildren."

*The lack of links this week is because, instead of reading through my massive backlog in google reader (it says +1000), I spent way too much time reading back posts at The Bloggess, trying to stifle my laughter, because I was at work and the funniness is kind of hard to explain without reading the posts. And now my co-workers think I'm a lunatic. Even more so. One actually said to me, "You shouldn't laugh to yourself, people will think you're crazy." to which I answered, "I know." Maybe I should have elaborated more. Meh. Anyway,  I suggest that you read this, this and especially this. Also, now I'm kind of scared that I'll find an opossum in my toilet, even though I'm fairly certain that we don't even have opossums in Nova Scotia.

This week, I have no big plans, and I'd like to keep it that way.

How about you?

Things I Love Thursday

Coffee, blueberry cheesecake, My birthday! Very.), that my shifts at work are back to 8.5 hrs (8hrs payed, 30 min lunch break) - they had upped them to 9hrs and you wouldn't think 1/2 an hour would make much difference but it sure did, four day works weeks!, cake, gift cards, reading, The Sims 3 (I love this game a little more all the time...), New Stuff (for my b-day, I got a black zipper hoodie, another zipper-down sweater, 2 purses, 3 t-shirts, a nail polish pen and a pair of jeans! Happy St. Patrick's Day!

St. Patrick's Day, originally uploaded by deedoucette.

I took this picture of Memo three years ago. He really, extremely not impressed that I had put the hat on him. That's why the picture is so blurry. (want more? Here are two more blurry shots St. Patrick's Memo, More St. Patrick's Memo). I'd have attempted another shot this year, except some time during the time between me taking this photo, and the following St. Patrick's Day, Memo got a hold of the hat and destroyed it. I'm not joking. It's weird, because he's never really destroyed anything else. He must have really, really hated that hat.

Anyway, the point is, Happy St. Patrick's Day, everyone!

Week in Review, Week Ahead

Happy Sunday, all! Last week, I was working on exercise. Again. I did pretty well. The weather cooperated nicely, and it's been wonderfully sunny and beautiful. Just begging me to go outside and take Jasmine for walks. I gave up on the hundred push ups challenge once and for all, but this has actually been a good thing. I've been doing more now that I'm not dreading the fact that I have push ups to do, or that I haven't done any for several days. Friday and Saturday I took a couple of days off to be lazy, but otherwise the week went swimmingly.

Hey, how about some links?

How to Make Your Cat Look Like a Shark I NEED TO BUY THIS FOR MY CAT RIGHT NOW. I already know that the boyfriend will tell me Memo doesn't need a shark sweater though, because he wont even let me buy a coat for the dog. Every time I bring it up (and I do bring it up often) all he says is "Jasmine doesn't need a coat." The fact that she'd look ADORABLE apparently doesn't mean anything to him.

Tree Railing - This is so awesome and creative. I want all of my stair railings to look like trees now.

10 Intriguing Mobster Nicknames

It's not nice to laugh at the misfortune of others (not that that has ever really stopped me...), but this story by the bloggess about her ninja pug knocking her down, and getting stabbed by chicken had me laughing so hard I was in tears. And now my co-workers think I'm strange. Which I am, but that's not really the point.

On to the new week! Today is Pi Day and Tomorrow is my birthday! The first isn't really relevant, but google just told me about it, so I thought I'd mention it. According to Wikipedia, "There are a large variety of ways of celebrating Pi Day and most of them include eating pie and discussing the relevance of π." So there you have it. Eat some pie. As for the rest of the week, I'm hoping to get some photo editing done, take lots of pictures and keep up with the walking (weather permitting).

How was your week? Got anything exciting planned for this week?

One to One Hundred: Part Three (aka the part that ends with me giving up)

For anyone not familiar with the One Hundred Push Ups Challenge, it's a six week program designed to, as the name suggests, train you to do 100 push ups.

What's This all about? Check out Part One and Part Two.

The days below are all training days, not actual days.

January 3rd, 2010

Day 19, 20, 21 and 22
This week, the plan was to do four sets of 10 push ups, on three different days. What I ended up doing was 10 push ups the first day, two sets of 10 the second, 3 sets of 10 on the third and added a fourth day where I did five sets of 5 push ups. Although I didn't do what I'd set out to do, I'm still calling this a success.

Day 23
Alright, back on track and starting Week 3. Today's Sets: 10, 12, 7, 7, Max (9). Scary. I thought it would be much tougher, but apparently my catch-up-week last week really did help, because the set of 10 was a breeze, and the two sets of 7 felt like I hardly had to do any at all. The set of 12 was a little rough, but I made it through. AND THE MAX SET! Oh the max set. I only needed to do 9, but I did 12, because I rock.

Day 24

Day two. Today I need to do 10, 12, 8, 8, Max (12). This day was significantly harder then the first. The sets fo 10 and 8 were not too bad, but the 12s were very difficult.

Day 25

Last day. Today's sets: 11, 13, 9, 9, Max (13). I was not at all looking forward to this. I had planned to do it early in the day, but I put it off and put it off. But I did it. I did it and it was hard, but now it's over and I get to go on to week four.

Day 26

Week 4! I've never made it this far before. Not ever. When I checked out the sets I'd be doing today, I kind of had a panic attack. Ok, not really, but it is scary and if I was prone to panic attacks, I'd probably have had one. I need to do 12, 14, 11, 10, Max (16). Seriously, that's a lot of push ups.  I had trouble last week, when the most I had to do in any one set was 13. Oh man. Lets get this over with.

Ok, so I did it! 14 set and the 16 sets were rough. Really rough. But I did it, and that's all the matters, right?

Day 27

Alright, so I did that one set on Tuesday of last week, and then I did no more the rest of the week. So, lets try week 4 again. Today I'll be doing 12, 14, 11, 10, Max (16), Again. Somehow, it was three times as hard this time then it was last time. Could it be because of the 7 day sabbatical I took? I'd say so. But I did it, and it's done. Again.

Day 28

So, i took a few weeks off from push-ups, so that I didn't give up on this altogether. I switched to free weights instead, but now I'm back at it, and starting Week 4, day 1. Today's Sets: 12, 14, 11, 10, Max (16). It was tough. Really tough. But I did it, but that last 16 were close to not getting done. I got to 14 and almost fell over, but I pushed through it!

Day 29

Today: 14, 16, 12, 12, Max (18). Failed. Another case of too many days off in a row. I did four sets of 12, though. I'll try again in a couple days.

Day 30

Today's Goal: 14, 16, 12, 12, Max (18). Today's actual: 14, 15, 12, 12, 15.  Not too bad. All in all, I'm proud of what I accomplished today, and I'll try again in a few more. I feel sufficiently exhausted, which signals to me that it was a job well done.

Day 31

Today, I don't feel like doing any push-up at all. It's Friday and I'm exhausted and I want to curl up in my bed and sleep untill it's Saturday. Instead, I compromise, and instead of shooting for 14, 16, 12, 12, Max (18), I did three sets of 13, and two sets of 12.

Day 32 - March 9th, 2009

Today, I decided to quit. I am giving up on the one hundred push-up challenge. The differences between this time and the previous two attempts are that I was actually still seeing improvements and that this is actually a conscious decision to quit, rather then procrastination-turns-into-quitting ("Hmm, it's been three months since I've done any push ups. I guess I'm not bothering with it anymore..."). I mean, there was a lot of procrastination. Lots of too many days between training days making it harder then it should be. I just really really hate push ups. I don't hate exercise. I like going for walks. I loved playing soccer when I was in better shape. Even weightlifting, while it make not be fun, I don't hate it. Push ups, though. Push ups I hate. I always thought I hated them because they were hard. Because I couldn't do them. No. It turns out I just hate them. So I'm giving up. I think my fitness journey will be better off for it. I know my mental health will be.

I did one last exhaustion test. I made it to 18.

Good-bye Hundred Push Ups Challenge. I'd say it's been fun, but...well, you know.

Week in Review, Week Ahead

Good Morning, and Happy Monday! Last week, I was all about health and fitness. Well, mostly fitness, but that leads to health, right? This was another week of starting off strong, and then there was kind of lull in the middle, and the end...well, not as strong as the beginning, but not a total waste. I need to find a way to keep my motivation mid-week. It's those Wednesdays and Thursdays! They'll be the death of me, for sure.

Here's some cool stuff from the internet:

Trivial Pursuit Deluxe Edition - Now with 100% more Kitteh.

Cadbury Creme Eggs Benedict - exactly as awesome as it sounds.

10 ways to identify a witch according to the Salem Witch Trials.

I don't know who thought that bananas and ham would make a good casserole combination (Paula Deen, apparently), but I agree that it sounds like the most disgusting recipe of all time.

Zombie shadow maker - very cool, and only $15!

Did you know that, along with being the first day of spring 'round these parts, March 20th is National Corndog Day? I didn't, but it sure sounds exciting! Planning to celebrate? Winona at Daddy Likey has some tips on what to wear on that special day.

101 Bacon Products for Fans of the Other White Meat Mmm, BACON!

Lion, Tiger and Bear form unusual Friendship - cute story.

This week, I'm continuing my major exercise kick. And this week (uh, minus yesterday...yesterday I did nothing - and I mean NOTHING. I just played the sims all day, which is why I'm posting this today instead of yesterday), I'm going to try to keep my motivation high everyday, not just at beginning.

Got any big plans this week? or How about some tips for me on staying motivated?

Review: Band Aid Perfect Fit Bandage

So, I get a lot of free crap in the mail, because I sign up for random things on the internet. It's always exciting and sometimes baffling ("Did I seriously sign up for this? Why would I do that?"). I love love love free stuff. Anyway, I was recently sent a Band aid perfect fit bandage. And by recently, I mean sometime within the last year. I never buy brand-name bandages, and I usually buy the plastic ones, even though I know that the fabric ones are a million times better. So, I got this bandaid, which is a fabric bandage and brand name, so I expected it to be better then what I normally use, but, I mean, it's a bandaid. I didn't expect to be wowed by it or anything. I threw in the cupboard with my other first-aid supplies and promptly forgot about it.

Fast forward a couple of months. I'm in my kitchen, making green tea, and I'm about to do something mildly stupid. I wanted honey in my tea. We had one of those squeeze bottles of honey, and it was almost gone. It wasn't crystallized or anything, but when I turned it upside down it wasn't budging. No trouble, I thought, I'll just take the top off and use a spoon. But even my narrowest spoon was just slightly to wide to fit into the bottle. It was so close to fitting. SO CLOSE! I decided to force it in anyway. Long story short, it totally worked and I got my honey, but I smashed the knuckle of my thumb on the top of the honey bottle and sliced it open. Seriously, who cuts them self on a plastic honey bottle? Me, that's who. (Important note: I did not get any blood on or in the honey bottle. Because I'm awesome)

The cut was tiny and thin (it looked a lot like a paper-cut), but it hurt like hell and bled way more then I think it should have. So I started digging through my cupboard for a band-aid. There I found the free one from the mail a few months before, so I slapped it on. It was exactly like every other bandaid I've ever used, except thinner then regular fabric ones. Not really at all remarkable.

Anyone who has ever put a bandaid around their thumb knuckle knows that they don't hold up very well. Not at all. The edges get all curled, and they just don't stay at all. So, imagine my surprise when I got out of bed the next morning that it was still on my thumb, looking pretty much exactly like it did when I put it on.

So the point? Band aid perfect fit bandages are totally awesome. You know, for band aids. And free stuff is awesome.

Mar 1, 2010

Hello, and welcome to another new week. Last week, I was focusing on two of my happiness commandments: Healthiness is Happiness and Look good, Feel Good. With the first one, I got back on track with eating breakfast everyday, I resumed the 100 Push-ups Challenge (after a few weeks of switching to free weights to preserve my sanity), I avoided the vending machine, I turned down free nachos on my break at work - instead waiting to eat something healthy when I got home, I did jumping jacks and ran up and down the stairs. So - Yay me, I'm awesome. Look good, Feel good...well, I made an effort, and that's what matters, I guess. There were things I wanted to get done but didn't, and days I just threw some clothes on and didn't much think about it. So, I could have done better, but I didn't, so...meh.

Time for some links! Here's some awesome stuff I found online this week:

2010 marks the centenary of the first air to ground radio message, which was apparently, "Roy, come and get this goddamn cat". lol.

My newest favorite internet person is Jenny Lawson (The Bloggess). I think this is one of those situations when people go, "Um, where have you been?" but whatever. Anyway, this interview with her is really funny and you should read it.

Mixing Cocktails: When to Shake and When to Stir - great info for budding mixologists.

This weeks Sunday Sweets at Cake Wrecks was transformed into Seussical Sweets! Total Dr. Seuss awesomeness.

Dubious Moments in Comic History

How cool are these Secret Message Decoder Cookies? (answer: very very very cool)

This week, Begins a new month! I love March, because it's my birthday month! That doesn't have anything to do with my goals for the week, I just wanted to mention it. For this week, I'm going back to a major focus on exercise and general health. I want to get lots of exercise, stay away from junk food, and maybe even go for a walk if there is a day that is both not so cold and not raining (which is unlikely to happen, but a girl can dream!).

What are you working on this week?
