Happy Middle Name Pride Day! How About a Drink?

Today is Middle Name Pride Day. Do you love your middle name? I'm betting you don't - most of us are ashamed of our middle names. How silly is that? It's just a name, right? It's something to make us a little more unique. Because there may be a billion John Smiths in the world, but there are far less John Alexander Smiths. And if you have a truly bizarre middle name - you know, the kind that really make your cringe - well then you're even more unique. I used to hate my middle name, but as I've grown older...well, I don't love it, but I'm more indifferent to it.

So, without further adieu, my middle name:

Louise

Since it's Friday, I searched out the perfect cocktail to compliment my middle name pride post: Louise Cocktail

  • 1 oz vodka
  • 1/2 oz peach schnapps
  • 3 oz cranberry juice
  • lemonade
  • Ice
Fill a Collins glass with ice. Add vodka, peach schnapps and cranberry juice. Top with lemonade. Serve with a bendy straw (not optional)

Do you love/hate your middle name? Did you luck out and get a totally bad-ass one? Either way, share your middle name in the comments.

What will you Celebrate Today?

Almost one full month ago, we were ringing in the new year. Didn't everything seem so fresh and new and exciting?

Those feeling have a habit of fading so fast...

That's why it's so important to find something to celebrate everyday. The world is so full of things to delight in, you just have to open your eyes! There is new music to dance to, ideas to explore, people to meet!

Why not go out to dinner because it's Tuesday, and that's awesome?

Get excited about rainbows. Raise your glass of OJ and propose a breakfast toast to a brand new day. Buy flowers for yourself (or your significant other). Or helium balloons. Play. Dress up for yourself, not an event. Dress down - put on your favorite pjs and snuggle up under a blanket. Take pictures. Laugh.

Make new goals - and reach them! When you do, don't forget to celebrate it in your own special way.

Be thankful for everything good in your life and tell those that are important to you how much they mean to you.

What will you celebrate today?

It's Tuesday, Lets Party!

...because today is Have a Party with your Bear Day!
Yeah. I know, that's a little weird, right? Not to be confused with Teddy Bear Picnic Day (July 10th) or Teddy Bear Day (September 9th), today you should get some balloons, don your party hats and get down with your teddy bear friend (or actual bear friend, I suppose, if you have one).

If you're not into that, you could always celebrate Button Day.

Happy Book Lover's Day!

The first Saturday of November is Book Lovers Day! So dust off your favorite book, grab one that's been sitting on your night stand for some time now, or go out and treat yourself to a brand new one! Today is the day to get your read on. Or something. Just go read a book, ok? I recommend anything by Douglas Adams.

It's Saturday! Looking for a Reason to Celebrate?

It's Saturday, and that's reason enough to celebrate, but are you looking for a better reason? Well, I might have just the thing! Today is Dictionary Day! It was created in honor of Noah Webster, who is considered to the father of the American Dictionary and was born this day in 1758. Today is a day to emphasize the importance of dictionary skills, and seeks to improve vocabulary.

An only somewhat on topic personal story: When I was in grade 6, we had silent reading time, where in, as the name suggests, we would sit and read quietly for awhile. At one point, I attempted to read my dictionary. I actually found it pretty fascinating. However, my teacher made me stop and pick another book to read, because she said "you can't learn anything by reading the dictionary!" A puzzling statement, for sure.

Anyway, back to Dictionary Day! Now, I'm not suggesting you go an read the dictionary (unless you're into that sort of thing). But how about you take some time to learn a new word or two? Here, I'll help you out:

Cockaigne (kaw-KAYN): noun; An imaginary land of luxury and idleness. (full definition)

Check today's A.Word.A.Day.  Dictionary.com has a Word of the Day too. And then gather your friends and family for a rousing game of Scrabble. Sounds like a good time to me.

Hey, Lets Celebrate!

Looking for a reason to Celebrate? How about one of these holidays:

Today, October 6th, is Mad Hatter Day. It was created in 1986 by a group of "computer people" as a day to be silly and celebrate silliness. Think about what silly means to you, and do that.

Tomorrow, October 7th, is World Smile Day. Take some time out to do an act of kindness and make someone smile! While you're at it, throw a smile on your own face.

This Friday is the second Friday of October, meaning it's World Egg Day! Cook up your favorite egg dish (Eggs Benedict? Poached Eggs on Toast? Green Eggs and Ham?), or maybe fry up some bacon and eggs and have breakfast for supper.

Saturday is Fire Prevention Day. Actually, it's now Fire Prevention Week, but the 9th is a particularly important part of the week, as it's the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Check the batteries in your smoke alarms, make sure you know your fire escape routes and know where your fire extinguishers are. If those things are not celebrate-y enough for you...I don't know, throw a party and don't light anything on fire. Or do. But do it safely.

Monday is Thanksgiving here in Canada. I'm going to camp and we're going to deep fry a turkey (which I am very excited about). Normally, people celebrate by eating lots of food and gathering with family. It's also National Angel food Cake Day, if that's more your style.

What are your celebrating this week?

It's Monday! Why not Celebrate?

Today is Labor Day, a day in celebration of the worker. For a lot of people, it means not working, relaxing and enjoying the end of summer. For me, it's the day I go to work and make huge stacks of cash for working on a stat holiday. Not only is it Labor Day, there are also two other holidays happening today.

Fight Procrastination Day:
It's a Day to Get things Done.

I don't know about you, but I have a huge probably with procrastination. I put things off, and put them off and so on and so on. Today is a day to start fighting that urge!

What can you do to celebrate? Start that huge project you've been putting off. Make a to do list and check everything off. Finish a project that's not due for another week.

Read a Book Day:
Take some time out of your busy life to relax and read a book.

Once you've tackled those things you've been procrastinating about, you'll need to relax a little. How about celebrating that other holiday happening today and read a book? I know I wish I did a lot more reading then I do.

Book I'm currently reading:

If it's cooler where you are today, snuggle up under the covers; if you're still getting summer like weather, enjoy the sunshine. And read a book.
