What am I loving this week? Well....

Coffee, hoodies (especially my new furry hooded one that my mom bought me!), the kitty & puppy, The Fiance, Family, spiced rum, writing, cooking, lobster, new very very dark jeans (about as dark as you can get without them being black), being back to my regular duties at work (because I actually know what I'm supposed to be doing), pasta, garlic bread, cupcakes, my kindle (oh my god, it is fantastic. I thought I would like it, but I actually love it), reading, chocolate cake with score bits (drool), zombies, sushi, Old Grey's anatomy re-runs, list making, darkness, the way snow clings to trees, winter sunrises, leather gloves, really stupid jokes, dark teal, stretching, days when it doesn't snow (few and far between lately!), fresh herbs starting to grow on my windosil, giant salads, discount produce that is still perfectly good, dangling earings, chalkboard signs, a warm bed, pinwheels, raspberries.
There was a lot of food in that list, huh? What are you loving this week?

February is Heart Month

The Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation has named February Heart Month. Heart health is important for all of us. I come from a family with a history of heart disease so this is a cause that is near and dear to me.

The two best things you can do for your heart are eat healthy and exercise. In the most basic of terms, cut your sodium, eats lots lean meats, fruit and veggies, and get moving.

The week of February 13th, I'll be posting about heart healthy eating and recipes over at Dee Eats, if you're into that sort of thing. I've also set up a page where you can make donations to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation. If you could make even a small donation, that would bring me major joy (as well Science says giving makes you happier).

Goodbye January

Today is the last day of January 2011! I took a little hiatus from blogging, but I'm back! Well, I'm slowly getting back to things. So, the last day of the first month of a new year. This year, my primary goal is to make this an awesome year. The year of awesome. Create and Grow are the themes of the year, so we'll see where that takes me.  

Books I finished this month: The Prometheus Deception, High Profile and The Complete Beauty Bible: The Ultimate Guide to Smart Beauty. 

I'm trying to read more this year. I'm thinking at least 30 books this year. I'm getting a head start with three this month, you know, for those crazy busy months. 


I started project 365 on the first. So far, so good.  At least with the actually taking of the photos. Editing is falling behind, but I'll catch up. I always do.

I actually started planning my wedding this month. Good thing, since it's in July. I can't wait for the day to get here. I'm not so stoked about all the planning and lead up, but I'm sure it will all turn out wonderful.


This month, I learned what a Puggle is. It's part beagle, part pug. It has the body of a beagle and the face of a pug. I can't decide if it's adorable or one of the ugliest dogs I've ever seen. I still want to snuggle them though.

My New Favorite Website: Smart Pretty and Awkward

Smart Pretty and Awkward is an awesome site that posts short tips on how to be smarter, Prettier and Less awkward. It's so simple, and that's what makes it so incredible. Post are frequent and always informative. Ok, go check it out now.

Six Websites to Make Yourself Smarter (Or at very least more interesting)

1. Wikipedia's List of Ten common misconceptions - Did you know that there is no evidence that Vikings had horns on their helmets? Or that Napoleon Bonaparte was not really all that short? How about that, contrary to several internet "fact" sites, ducks quacks do in fact echo?  Now you do. Spread the word.

2. Mental_Floss - There is so much awesome on mental_floss...I can not even begin to describe it. There are quizzes, random facts and strange and wonderful bits of knowledge. You will learn something new, and you will be entertained.

3. BBC Languages - Looking to learn a new language this year? BBC languages is an awesome site to help you do just that. They have tons of languages to choose from, with both audio and video courses, and just a ton of information.

4. eHow - eHow has articles on how to do just about anything. Seriously. Just a sample: How to partition a Heard Drive, How to choose a good scotch, How to prune old grape vines, How to make a Chinese Shy Lantern. The instructions are step by step and easy to follow.

5. How Stuff Works - Another site where you can learn about almost everything. How Stuff Works is exactly what it says it is. It will break down exactly how things work for you.

6. So You Wanna - This site is much like the last two. Learn what you wanna do, the site says. The article titles all start the same way: "So you wanna...". Examples: So you wanna publish a book?, So you wanna paint a room?, So you wanna be a model?, So you wanna speak with an Irish accent?. Of the last three sites, this one is my favorite. It's not any more well written, more informative or more useful. In fact, the other two are probably better over all. But the tone of the articles makes them more fun to read.
