Goodbye, August 2011

It's that time again! Time to say goodbye to another month. Farewell to August 2011!

I finished two books on the very first day of August. Going Candid, A free, downloadable street photography how-to and The Happiness Project: Or, Why I Spent a Year Trying to Sing in the Morning, Clean My Closets, Fight Right, Read Aristotle, and Generally Have More Fun. They were both excellent books, but I was particularly excited to read The Happiness Project. I've been reading the blog for years, so it's been a long time coming. Both have inspired me in their own ways, so I recommend both of them immensely! After that my book reading slowed down a bit - re-read Divergent and started reading 25 Days to Better Thinking and Better Living: A Guide for Improving Every Aspect of Your Life.

Other highlights of my month: I got to see my brother and sister-in-law. A family friend gave me a laptop (I had to buy a new battery for it, but still). I had some job interviews. I went to some farm markets. Went to camp day (open house) at Camp Aldershot. Did a lot of writing, walking and closest cleaning.

A few movies I watched this month that I would recommend: Whip It!, Sunshine Cleaning, Wristcutters: A Love Story & Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog.

I also like to think of August as the end of Summer (even though Fall doesn't officially start for several weeks). Want to know some things I've learned this summer? I like medium dry white wine better then all other wines (But my parent's wildberry wine is a close second!). My Style Statement is Comfortable Creative. I learned how to make a salad that had no greens and a pasta that included beer as an ingredient. (Among other things) What did you learn this summer? How was your August?

Goodbye, April

It is the last day of April! It's been so spring like and awesome here in Nova Scotia (and that includes the rainy days, BTW!).

Book I read this month: Get Some (Terrible book. Avoid at all Costs.) & Thicker than Blood (I didn't realize that it was Christian Lit untill I was over half way through it. I enjoyed it in spite of that fact (No offense meant to any Christians out there, just I'm an Atheist, so I wouldn't have expected to like the book). That brings the total to 11 (of 30) for the year, thus far.

I won two books from twitter contests hosted by Chapters Indigo! (Follow them on twitter here) I am so very excited about both of them. The first is the yet to be released Divergent and then just today I won The Book of Even More Awesome! I have yet to receive either of them, but I am so looking forward to getting them in the mail!

This month I leaned the Importance of Back-up. The hard way. Don't let it happen to you!

Over all it's been a pretty slow month. I've been on night shift now since the first week of March, and it's making me lazy, I think. The Fiance got a new job this month, and I applied (and interviewed for!) his old one. It doesn't look like I'll get it, but it is inspiring me to get out there more with my resume!  I really like what I'm doing now, but I need to get off nights.

How was your April?

Farewell to February

February is always too short, ya know? It was not a bad month, though.

This month, I actually made some new posts on my neglected food blog, Dee Eats. A lot of that had to do with signing up to campaign for the Canadian Heat and Stroke Foundation in support of Heart Month. That was a giant flop. I didn't raise any money at all. Better luck next year, right?

I finally got the Kindle that I would have gotten for Christmas if they hadn't been way back ordered (in Canada anyway). I can not give this device high enough praise. It is wonderful. Seriously, if you do a lot of reading and you're on the fence about whither or not you want one - go for it. You will love it.Books I finished this month: Soul Identity, The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead, World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War, Fire Walking,

That brings the total for the year to 7 (of 30).

This month, I went to Meteghan and Hectanooga. Sadly, it was for the funeral of my Great Aunt Millie. I ate Rappie Pie for the first time. Everyone was surprised that I liked it. Apparently it's an acquired taste.  Or, rather, an acquired texture. It's impossible to describe in a way that makes it sound appetizing. It's a grey color, it's mostly potatoes and it kind of has the consistency of that clear amber colored glue that had an orange rubber top. And it has chicken in it. I got a lot of reading done on the drive to and from The French Shore. I was reading The Zombie Survival Guide at the time, and it felt kind of strange and wrong to read a book about zombies on the way to a funeral.

I finally planted the Chia Gourmet Herb Garden that I got for Christmas. It's working really well, so far. Things are growing. Here is my only issue. The give you three pots. Three growing mediums. And six seed packets. And you only grow one type per pot. That annoyed me. Enough that I wouldn't recommend buying it, even though it worked really well and was really easy. It just seems like a money grab. Something to force you to order more growing medium. Well, sorry Chia, now you don't get any more of my money. Ever.

Everyone join me in saying goodbye to the shortest month of the year!

Goodbye January

Today is the last day of January 2011! I took a little hiatus from blogging, but I'm back! Well, I'm slowly getting back to things. So, the last day of the first month of a new year. This year, my primary goal is to make this an awesome year. The year of awesome. Create and Grow are the themes of the year, so we'll see where that takes me.

Books I finished this month: The Prometheus Deception, High Profile and The Complete Beauty Bible: The Ultimate Guide to Smart Beauty

I'm trying to read more this year. I'm thinking at least 30 books this year. I'm getting a head start with three this month, you know, for those crazy busy months.

I started project 365 on the first. So far, so good.  At least with the actually taking of the photos. Editing is falling behind, but I'll catch up. I always do.

I actually started planning my wedding this month. Good thing, since it's in July. I can't wait for the day to get here. I'm not so stoked about all the planning and lead up, but I'm sure it will all turn out wonderful.

This month, I learned what a Puggle is. It's part beagle, part pug. It has the body of a beagle and the face of a pug. I can't decide if it's adorable or one of the ugliest dogs I've ever seen. I still want to snuggle them though.

How was your January?
