It is the last day of my favorite month - March! March came in like a lion - wind and rain and a flooded basement. It really warmed up quickly. We saw temperatures like 17°C on the 7th of March. That's almost unheard of! I started going for a lot more walks with Jasmine this month. I took a ton of photos and got behind on my photo editing. Like I haven't edited a photo since before Valentine's Day. I'll catch up though, I always do.
Books I finished in March: Simplify Your Time: Stop Running & Start Living! & Fat. The first had a lot of good advice, but just won't work with my schedule (which is majorly screwed up. Still.). The second was excellent and funny. Well worth the $2 I payed for it. That brings the total for the year to 9 (goal: 30) if anyone is keeping score.
My birthday was in March! I was born on the ides of March. I had a great day. I got a hand mixer and a DSLR Camera (squeel!) and an awesome cake. I went to The Port Pub for the first time. It was excellent, but apparently it can be hit and miss. I had the Cranberry Chicken Focaccia and I would totally recommend it. Yum.
I finally bought my Wedding dress. Another recommendation: If you are wedding dress shopping in Nova Scotia, go to Annabell's Fashions. The owner, Annabell, is super nice and she took one look at me in a dress and said, "I have a better dress for you...and it's a lot cheaper!" She did the same thing (well, without the cheaper part) for my friend that was looking for a bridesmaid dress. And they were beautiful dresses. Mine was much better then the one I had on. My experience with people in bridal stores (aside from a few here and there) has been pretty negative. Annabell's was excellent.
I made several batches of failed cookies. They all tasted good but fell flat. More experimenting to come.
And finally, yesterday The Bloggess followed me on twitter. Yes, seriously, that happened. And I have Nathan Fillion and possibly a ball of twine to thank. The internet is so weird. And awesome.
I'm glad spring is here, but I'm sad to see March go. How was your March?

Spring!
Hello first day of spring! Spring never really arrives in Nova Scotia until the end of April at the earliest, but the callender says spring is here today, so I'm going to spend all day dreaming about green grass and daffodils.

There is a Theory...
- There is a theory which states that if ever anybody discovers exactly what the Universe is for and why it is here, it will instantly disappear and be replaced by something even more bizarre and inexplicable. There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

Happy Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day)
Yay, pancake day! Shrove Tuesday is the day preceding Ash Wednesday, the first day of the season of fasting and prayer - Lent. I'm not particularly religious, so I don't generally care about these sort of things but I like pancakes. Any excuse to eat pancakes is just fine by me!
Five ways to eat your pancakes:
- Traditional: A big stack covered in syrup and butter
- Topped with mashed berries and whipped cream
- Just butter (I used to eat them this way as a kid)
- Smeared with butter and covered with sugar(A childhood friend showed me this one)
- Use the pancakes as bread and make a sandwich! Stick some bacon and eggs in there - Yum!
Customer: Waiter, will my pancake be long?
Waiter: No sir, it will be flat and round like everyone else's.

An important lesson about bullies from The Bloggess. Mainly, bullies are assholes and you should ignore them. Or screw with their heads. One is more fun and the other is more mature. I suggest fun, myself.

Coffee, Pay week!, Raise Your Glass by P!nk, getting some wedding planning done (and finding awesome DIY solutions like these personalized candy bar wrappers!), supper at Mom and Dad's, scallops, NCIS Season 1 and 2, my wedding invitations (they rock), writing, reading, getting some vacation days approved (a few days this month and 2 full weeks in the summer!), dark teal-blue, baby giraffes, sunshine, turquoise and pink, getting stuff in the mail, my new "tree of life" aluminum water bottle, walks in the rain, The fiance, the kitty, the hound, beer, birds, laughing, black hoodies, giant squid, glitter.
and lastly a conversations with my co-worker about spring:
I forget exactly what she said. Something about spring starting this month and winter being almost over.
Me: Yes, because - March 21st, automaticly it's spring. No more snow.
Her: That's right.
Me: Because we never get snow storms in April. Or sometimes May.
Her: Yep. I called it. March 21st. No more snow.
Me: ...You know, if it snows after March 21st now, it's all your fault.

This is Wrong
I recently read this article and it absolutely horrified me. Short version: A man met a woman at a bar. Later, he raped her. He was found guilty. At sentencing, the judge basically said that the woman asked for it and gave the guy a slap on the wrist.
A quote from the article:
Misunderstood? He misunderstood when she fought back so hard it left bruises? How can that be misunderstood? It does not matter what she was wearing, where they met or even if she flirted with him earlier in the night. None of that gave him the right to rape her. The judge's comments make me angry. It is sad in this day and age that anyone - esspecially a judge - would think that what a woman wears is has anything to do with consent. Has he never heard that No means NO? Or does he just not believe it.
This is so wrong.
I'm glad the protesters showed up. I agree with them, he should resign. Anyone who thinks this way has no business being a judge.
A quote from the article:
During the sentencing, Dewar also commented on the way the woman was dressed and her actions the night she was forced to have sex by a man in the woods along a dark highway outside Thompson, Man., in 2006.
The man and a friend met the woman, who is now 25, and her girlfriend earlier that night outside a bar under what Dewar called "inviting circumstances."
The judge pointed out the victim and her friend were dressed in tube tops, no bras, and high heels and noted they were wearing plenty of makeup.
Dewar called the man a "clumsy Don Juan" who may have misunderstood what the victim wanted.
Misunderstood? He misunderstood when she fought back so hard it left bruises? How can that be misunderstood? It does not matter what she was wearing, where they met or even if she flirted with him earlier in the night. None of that gave him the right to rape her. The judge's comments make me angry. March!
by Rebeca :) |
I love March. March is the start of spring, Saint Patrick's Day and MY BIRTHDAY! I love March even when it starts off by flooding my Basement (Seriously, March, what is up with that?). Even when there are crazy snow storms after the so called start of spring. I have nothing but love for March.
Some Quotes about March:
"March is a month of considerable frustration - it is so near spring and yet across a great deal of the country the weather is still so violent and changeable that outdoor activity in our yards seems light years away."
- Thalassa Cruso
"March is the month of expectation,
The things we do not know,
The Persons of Prognostication
Are coming now.
We try to sham becoming firmness,
But pompous joy
Betrays us, as his first betrothal
Betrays a boy."
- Emily Dickinson, XLVIII
"The March wind roars
Like a lion in the sky,
And makes us shiver
As he passes by.
When winds are soft,
And the days are warm and clear,
Just like a gentle lamb,
Then spring is here."
- Author Unknown
"March is a tomboy with tousled hair, a mischievous smile, mud on her shoes and a laugh in her voice."
- Hal Borland
So, March is my favorite month, what's yours?
