It's Tuesday, Lets Party!
...because today is Have a Party with your Bear Day!
Yeah. I know, that's a little weird, right? Not to be confused with Teddy Bear Picnic Day (July 10th) or Teddy Bear Day (September 9th), today you should get some balloons, don your party hats and get down with your teddy bear friend (or actual bear friend, I suppose, if you have one).
If you're not into that, you could always celebrate Button Day.

6 Really Terrible "Walked into a Bar" Jokes
...that I laughed at anyway.
A man walked into a bar and sat down next to a man with a dog at his feet. "Does your dog bite?" he asked. "No." A few minutes later the dog took a huge chunk out of the man's leg. "I thought you said your dog doesn't bite!" he said indignantly. The other guy replied, "That's not my dog."
This baby seal walks into a bar and the bartender says,"What'll ya have..." The seal says, "Anything but a Canadian Club...
A neutron walks into a bar. "I'd like a beer" he says. The bartender promptly serves up a beer. "How much will that be?" asks the neutron. "For you?" replies the bartender, "no charge"
This skeleton walks into a bar and says, "I'd like a beer and a mop..."
Two peanuts walked into a bar, and one was a-salted...
Two cartons of yogurt walk into a bar. The bartender says to them, "We don't serve your kind in here." One of the yogurt cartons says back to him, "Why not? We're cultured individuals."
What's your favorite "Walked into a Bar" joke?

Part of our Heritage
Heritage Minutes - better known as those part of our heritage commercials, are short films detailing parts of Canadian History. I got thinking about them when I posted the Flander's Fields one on Remembrance Day. This short blurb makes it sound like they still play them on Canadian tv, but I can't remember the last time I saw one. None the less, they are a huge memory generator, and they're pretty awesome. Here are some of my favorites.
How Canada Got it's Name
Superman
The Underground Railroad
Winnie the Pooh
Free Heath Care
Basketball
Irish Orphans
Women in Medicine
Dr. Wilder Penfield
(this one is a bit quite, you may have to crank your speakers)
Mona Parsons
I could do this all day. I better quit now before I get too carried away. All you Canadians out there: What's your favorite Heritage Minute?

hey, remember way back there were several stories about McDonald's Hamburgers that don't rot? Well, it's true that, given the right conditions, they don't, but the reasoning that it's because they are "a chemical food. There is absolutely no nutrition here. Not one ounce of food value."(Karen Hanrahan) is just bad science. Check it: The Myth of the 12-year-old Hamburger and The Testing Results. I'm with the article author: I don't really care about McDonald's hamburgers (in fact, I just don't really like them and rarely eat them) but I do care about bad science. Stop Bad Science!

Week in Review, Week Ahead
Happy Sunday and Happy Halloween! Last week I had plans to get in some exercise and cut out sugar. I thought I'd be ok with the sugar thing, since it's only for a week and Halloween is today - technically a new week. Also, we didn't buy any Halloween candy because I have to work tonight so I wont be giving out candy. The Fiance is going to hide out at his parents, because no one wants to give out candy alone. So, that means no candy that I can sneak into before or after the night in question. So...no sugar. That was the plan. It was a huge failure, though. mega. Better luck next time, I guess. The exercise - I did pretty well on that front! I went for several walks with the dog. I at least got half way there

Farewell October
Tomorrow is the last day of October! How time flies! I posted an update halfway through the month. So, what did I accomplish with the rest of my month?
I installed a new template for this site, which I got from BTemplates. It makes everything look all clean and spiffy and....right. Ya know? Should have done it a long time ago. I also got on top of posting regularly and hope to keep it up in the future.
I not only got caught up on my photo editing (up to this week), but I've gotten them all posted to flickr too! This is an enormous feat, considering that at the end of August I was still posting May's photos. I've also taken a ton of Scavenger Hunt photos. Update post coming soon!
I got my first Moleskine. Actually I got this set of three. I really like them. I suspect that I'd like a regular moleskine better, but these are what I got. I'm using the first one as sort of an art-ish/inspiration journal. I'm drawing inspiration from Wreck This Journal, How to Be an Explorer of the World and Living Out Loud - three books that I hope to buy at some point, but for now I'll have to be content with Amazon's Look Inside! feature. I'm more of a writer and a collector then an traditional artist(i.e. I can't draw), so it's mostly writing and found objects. The Second one is being turned into a day planner, and I already like it way better then any day planner I've ever bought or seen in a store. The third one is thus far blank.
I learned that pealing and slicing avocados is not as difficult as I'd imagined. It wasn't even any more difficult then my regular method of scooping it out with a spoon. Plus, it's prettier. On the flip side, pealing and slicing kiwi fruit is just as annoying as I remember.
Two Other Things I Learned:
Best Halloween costume story I heard this week: a girl at work has a daughter who is about 4 or 5. Yesterday she says "For Halloween, Phoenix wants to be Cinderella, Snow White, AND a Fireman." made me lol
Did you have a productive October?

Halloween Candy
Ah, Halloween candy. Who doesn't love it? "Nothing on Earth so beautiful as the final haul on Halloween night." -Steve Almond. Little tiny chocolate bars, teeny bags of chips (or cheezies!)...I never really had a favorite Halloween candy/treat. Is that weird?
You know what I hated, though? Rockets.
Gross. Tastes like chalk.
Did you have a favorite Halloween candy? What did you hate the most to find in your Halloween haul?

Halloween Costume Ideas
It's almost Halloween! Are you dressing up? I generally don't, and I don't imagine this year will be any different. That doesn't mean I can't admire other people's amazing costumes! Maybe I'll help you out by giving you an idea or two.
Rob at Cockeyed.com has had a plethora of incredible costumes, but my favorite has got to be the his paparazzi costume:
The flashes actually go off when he pushes a button.
Ok, so maybe you're looking for something a little more store bought. That's cool. Don't think that makes you resigned to a pirate or a witch or a sexy nurse! With a quick search I found Halloween Costumes 4 U, where you could be a Giant Zombie Biker:
Or a Scary Renaissance Queen:
Want something funny and vaguely disturbing? How about this:
Yeah, that's creepy.
Board Game Fan? Great! Dress as Twister:
And if you really had your heart set on sexy nurse (and who doesn't?), you can at least be a little original and go as the Negligent Mad Nurse:
Are you all ready for halloween? Are you dressing up? Got your costume all planned out? Do tell!
